Catherine Deneuve is the legendary French actress that everyone knows and loves. Not only was the almost 70-year-old actress muse to lots of famous film directors (like Luis Bunuel or Andre Techine), but the blonde beauty was also muse to fashion houses like Yves Saint Laurent -that styled the actress in five of her films, one of which was the famous Belle du Jour.
Catherine Deneuve was nominated for an Oscar in 1993, for her role in the movie Indochine, and in 2008 she appeared in her 100th film! I love the picture above, it's so seventies and gorgeous.
Cathhrine was actually a natural brunette. She was born Catherine Fabienne Dorleac, but as she started her acting career she changed to Deneuve, her mother's maiden name, so as to not be confused with her sister.
One of the most gorgeous French women.. Usually compared to Brigitte Bardot, since Catherine replaced her as "Marianne" the national symbol of France. I think she is incredibly similar to the beautiful Grace Kelly.
Two of Catherine's most legendary films: Le Sirene du Mississippi (1969) and The Hunger (1983). These two films are also incredibly important because they are two of the five films the designer Yves Saint Laurent dressed Catherine Deneuve.
Recently Catherine spoke about fashion and France to Vogue UK:
"Fashion has always been involved with France, there are great stylists and designers in America, Italy and England, but the plot of the fashion world will always be French."
I just finished watching Catherine's 2010 movie: Potiche (Trophy wife). I loved this film! I highly recommend it, specially to all the feminist fashionistas out there.
The film is set in 1977 and Catherine Deneuve plays a woman that takes charge of all aspects in her life..
Potiche was even nominated for a Cesar award for all of the fabulously achieved period fashion. Catherine's character wears tons of gorgeous perfectly fitted suits, with different prints and colors, everything very seventies. Above you can see some of the costume sketches.
Catherine starred in one of the Louis Vuitton Journey campaigns of 2007. The image was shot by the amazing Annie Liebovitz, and Catherine looked as classic and elegant as ever.
What do you think of Catherine Deneuve? Are you a fan?
I truly recommend the movie Potiche, all of her suits are chic, elegant and super proper.
She was so pretty! Don't you think?
Thank you so much for reading :)
